I started this project using mostly Kona Cottons........ but I always find them so very solid. I had some of those jelly rolls....I believe that's what they're called, shows you how I often I use pre-cuts. I had them in three different colour ways and yet I found myself hunting for more fabric.
Something with a bit more texture usually calls my name...plus that black and white print by Marcia Derse (from my stash) and I think I might be on my way. I also nixed the woven stripes by Kaffe Fasset for this particular project....I'm not sure why, they just didn't feel right.

In my experience, I find it easier working with woven look fabrics or shot cottons rather than the pure solid cottons because they seem to flow together more easily and have a bit of a painterly quality, which I love.
Since most of my shot cottons are back in Alberta I had no choice but to go shopping...right??? Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!!
I agree - I find the solids too "flat" to be easy to use. I tend to go with hand-dyes or something with some variation to them. Those new fabrics, Color Weave by P & B, look yummy! Of course you needed to go shopping!! I'll back you up on that.
ReplyDeleteI find the all solids quite flat as well. I like to mix in subtle textures, linen looks. Gives a quilt more depth and dimension!
ReplyDeleteI love your style! Shot cottons and woven cottons are my go to fabrics every time! But I do love to mix it up with kona and other solids from time to time!

ReplyDeleteI agree that plain solids look a bit flat, so I would love to find some more with a woven structure. Your fabrics look fabulous! Love that print!
