Creating Some Calm in the Storm

Here's one last look, at the view, from my son's hospital window (rather a quilt worthy view, in my opinion). I'm happy to report he came home on Friday and is doing really well. We even managed a family outing to Ikea over the weekend....that alone should tell you how things are going,

Thank you so much, for your kind word, thoughts and prayers....it means so much!!
Meanwhile we've been trying to create a little bit of calm in the midst of the chaos. After all one does need their computer!!
And perhaps a sewing machine or two.....just perhaps.

Yup....there's the cutting table. Are you wondering what's up with all the plastic??

The basement has approximately 700 hundred square feet of unfinished space, besides the finished part. Unfortunately there are no windows in that area. So just what does a quilter do with a black hole of that magnitude??

Cut a door of course....and let the light from the patio doors shine in!!!!! We'll be putting in a french door.

Put up some drywall, add some lighting and electrical sockets, paint the floor.....and I will have more storage than I have ever had and a spot for the long arm.

Of course this is rather a slow process and dusty to say the least.

Meanwhile, upstairs is becoming a little more orderly.

Slowly but surely things are coming together.

I've even created a temporary closet until I can get around to ordering an Ikea system.

Lest you think things are under control.....remember this room, yup it is still piled high to the ceiling!!

Once again, thank you for all your wonderful comments and emails, I tried to answer as many as I could....a few might have slipped through the cracks.....your support as ever, means so much.

  1. Marianne, you observe and create beauty on so many levels! Thank you for continuing to share that with us who are watching and listening. From the inspiring photos you take even in hospitals, to the way you arrange a room in your new spaces, you encourage us to see art everywhere. You'll probably never know quite how much you inspire and motivate us. Thank you once again. Barb.

  4. I'm please to hear that your son is on the road to recovery and is now home.
I really don't envy your ongoing home organizing process, but I'm amazed about how much you have already achieved - well done - hopefully it won't be long before you are amazing us all with new masterpieces

  7. So glad things are starting to smooth out a bit! I can relate to the remodeling dust, but it will be so worth it in the end. The space you will have will be fantastic. Now, I bought new lights for my sewing studio, but before I have my brother install them I want to paint the ceiling. I am afraid that may open a can of worms since I need to remove the horrible wall paper in the studio and the prime and paint the nasty brown paneling on the lower half of the walls to lighten up the room. Oh, I think we are going to have to cut out a section of the ceiling to replace the hose bibb (outside water faucet) since the handle is broken. The pipe for this runs thru the ceiling of the studio. See what a mean? A can of worms, but it will be so nice when I get it done.

  8. I was wondering how he (you) were doing. I'm glad he's doing so well.

At least you have some order established in part of the house and at some "organized" disorder going on. That's going to be a wonderful sewing space. I took half of my DH's man cave downstairs and I love it. I have way more room than when I was in one of the bedrooms on the main floor.

  9. You've already made a quilt of the view from your son's window! If you turn it sideways, it looks just like the Montreal 2010 quilt on your sidebar.

  10. Whoa! I have just caught up with the news of your son. Thank goodness all is well. The idea of leeches makes me squirm! Apparently maggots are also excellent for cleaning up wounds too. Personally I prefer a sticking plaster!! Love your new set up...all looks great.

  14. It seems I not only love your designs in quilts but also in home furnishing. Your living & and dining rooms are lovely. Sleek and modern and with just wonderful pops of color! Good luck with the unpacking. We have a room I call the Room of Shame because we moved in here more than a year ago and it's still bad, very bad!
