Well....I sort of fell off the Blog Wagon

Yes, that's exactly what happened this last year.  Every time I would attempt to find some "Normal" another crisis would present itself. "Normal" whatever that means, seems to have eluded me. I am one of those people, who loves the ordinary, simplicity of everyday life. Holidays and Special Occasions aren't on my list of highs. It's the days in between that touch me. So the drama of the last year or two have definitely put a damper, on my ordinary days.

Coping with loss is never easy, but we usually aren't given a choice. Some of the aspects of my life which I thought were strong, were in actuality quite fragile and oddly enough some the aspects that I thought were fragile were in essence very strong. To find strength in weakness and experience brokenness in what I trusted to be strong has both broken me and strengthened me at the same, odd as that might sound. It's left me spinning in different directions and it shows in my creative life as well.

Today, I had a lovely ordinary day. I had the afternoon to myself, which seems rare these days and spent it playing with my fabric. I'm back in Victoria and hoping for several more lovely, ordinary days.

I'm not sure where this is going..........but oh my, it felt good to play.

Yesterday we took a little road trip to Nanaimo.....
a bit of a shop hop.

As you can see, I might have fallen off the Blog Wagon but I certainly haven't fallen off the Fabric Buying Wagon....even though it might be a good idea if I did!!!!

  1. Oh I so appreciated your post. Normal days are my favorite too. The highs and lows of holidays and other special occasions wear on me a bit. I'm glad you're finding a new balance through whatever you've been dealing with. As always, I love to see what you're currently working on although I usually just lurk.:)

  4. Thank you. I am happy to know I'm not the only one who longs for "ordinary" days. We call the time after holidays and special events "The Happy Lonesome." Wishing you smaller bumps in your road and more ordinary days.

  5. Glad you're back! I feel like this spring has been just racing by, with school activities and such (grandkids school activities that is.) Your project is fascinating - don't know why but that gray chevron fabric made me think of clouds.

  6. I have missed your postings and visual blasts of creativity. I get quite cranky if I don't get 'down time' to decompress in my sewing room.

  10. Unfortunately, there comes a time when we all have to realize that those ups and downs, gifts and losses, special occasions and times of mourning are all part of normal. They will never go away. We cope as best we can, do what we can, and keep going on.

  14. Yes, it is hard because I know my parents and inlaws are aging so have to rejoice in every occasion we can be together but know that we also need those ordinary days so so much! Hope you can enjoy more of them!

  20. You are the best quilter and I'm always inspired by your work. I notice you have often used fabric that fades in and out of dark to light in the same color. I've been looking for that kind of fabric but can't find it. What's the name of fabric that does that fading from dark to light? Where can I find it? Do you order online?

    1. These type of fabrics are usually called ombre fabrics. I buy them at my local quilt shop. But I know they can be bought on line.
Some of the ones I have are by Caryl Bryer Fallert-Essentials for Bernartex.
